A longtime Arkansas Democrat-Gazette editor died unexpectedly Sunday at his home in Little Rock.

Michael Storey, an associate editor and TV columnist, was 69 years old.

The cause of death has not been released. He was reported to have died in his sleep while napping, Managing Editor David Bailey wrote in an all-staff email Monday morning.

"I’m sorry to be the bearer of such devastating news," Bailey wrote. "There will never be another like him."

Storey started his career at the Arkansas Democrat in 1977 after serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1974. He wrote the humorous, fabricated Otus the Head Cat column, which appeared every Saturday, and he covered the state's walking trails in his popular Happy Trails series.
