Second Thoughts

Astros deserve bigger stage, Bregman says

Houston star and MVP candidate Alex Bregman is tired of being the opening act for the Red Sox and Yankees.

After the Astros completed their sweep of the Cleveland Indians on Monday, Bregman took aim at the schedule-makers in MLB who didn't put the Astros in prime-time games.

He had seemingly finished up an interview with MLB Network before he thought of something else he wanted to say. He came back to the mic to compare his team to Tiger Woods and Floyd Mayweather.

Basically, he thinks the Astros should be MLB's big draw.

"Does Tiger Woods tee off at 8 a.m. when he's going to win a Masters? Does Floyd Mayweather fight the first fight of the night? No, he's the main event, right?" Bregman said. "So the 'Stros need to be playing on prime-time television, 7 p.m. So we're looking forward to playing prime-time television in the ALCS."

If it weren't already clear, Bregman does not lack confidence. He's among the best young players in the game and he knows it. He's tuned into delivering great quotes, creating viral moments and, thus far, has been able to back up everything he says.

And while all that is true, MLB still would make the same call for the Astros to play second fiddle to the Yankees and Red Sox 100 times out of 100. It's the biggest rivalry in the game, and one of the most famous in sports, so the decision makes complete sense.

Still, that won't stop Bregman from delivering mic-drop quotes and carrying a chip on his shoulder into Houston's eventual ALCS matchup with either the Yankees or Red Sox.

Bye-bye

It may only be the NBA preseason, but Steve Kerr is already getting tossed like it's the real thing.

The Golden State Warriors' head coach was ejected from Monday's exhibition contest against the Phoenix Suns in the third quarter after arguing an illegal screen that was called on Stephen Curry. Kerr was quickly rung up for two technical fouls by referee Ben Taylor and hilariously responded by saying, "I didn't want to be here anyway" and waving at Taylor sarcastically.

The back-to-back defending champions don't officially kick off the year until Tuesday, but it's good to see that Coach Kerr is already in midseason form.

Unforgettable

Drew Brees says that he won't soon forget the play the New Orleans Saints ran that helped him break the career passing yards record. It's a good thing he has a good memory, because he needs it for how long the play is to call.

In his postgame interview with ESPN's Lisa Salters, Brees was asked what the play was that they ran to break the record. Brees gave a grin because he knew he was about to lose so much of the audience with the complex play call.

The play was: gun king, trips right, terrapin 52 sway, all go special, X shallow cross, H wide.

You got all that?

Good, because the play turned out to be a 62-yard touchdown pass to Tre'Quan Smith.
