A 60-year-old Maumelle man was shot and killed Friday, just two days after he was recognized as an outstanding alumnus of his college, authorities said.

At approximately 4:49 a.m., Maumelle police officers received a call about shots fired in the area of Kingspark Drive, according to a police report. Officers reported finding Jerry Stuart dead in his driveway with multiple wounds.

Just two days before his death, Stuart was announced as the 2018 outstanding alumnus of the year from Henderson State University's Black Alumni Association, according a post on the university's Facebook page. Two outstanding black alumni are chosen each year and recognized during homecoming, according to the university's website.

There was a banquet organized to recognize his award scheduled for Oct. 19, according to a Facebook post from the Black Alumni Chapter.

Kingspark Drive is a subdivision in north Maumelle near Odom Boulevard. According to Arkansas property records, Stuart and his wife have lived at 63 Kingspark Drive for more than 20 years after they purchased the home in May 1997.

Information for this article was reported by Clara Turnage and John Lynch of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Why no White Outstanding Alumni selected by White Alumni Chapter? Looks like discrimination to me

Hey title. I was thinking the same thing! Is there Hispanic chapter? Asian chapter? What’s wrong with just an outstanding person with no mention of skin color. This is absolutely discrimination.

Kinda sounds like somebody found him after all those years. Sad for the family, my condolences.

Because "White" is implied and understood. What's interesting is you already know that.

The small minded comments on this are just that.....
Maybe if they had any schooling or were alumni, they could start a white chapter
instead of whinning about ones that already exist.....damn crybabies!!

It's hard enough growing up black. Let them have their chance to be proud and to set a good example.
