Authorities investigate death of Arkansas inmate in barracks

LITTLE ROCK — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate found dead at an Arkansas prison over the weekend.

The Department of Correction said William Turner was unresponsive when found in his assigned barracks at the Tucker Unit on Sunday morning. Emergency medical treatment was administered to the 46-year-old inmate at the barracks, and Turner was pronounced dead there.

A Department of Correction spokesman said there were 45 inmates in the barracks where Turner was found. Arkansas State Police is investigating Turner's death, and the Department of Correction will conduct an internal investigation.

Turner was serving a 25-year sentence for the manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance.
