Collision kills Arkansas teen, injures 2 others, police say

Authorities have identified an 18-year-old man who died in a two-vehicle wreck last week in Northwest Arkansas.

The collision happened at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the intersection of U.S. 62 and Bethel Blacktop Road in Farmington, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Troopers wrote that 45-year-old Jimalea Holt was driving a 2014 Subaru Forester east on the highway when she stopped at a red light at the intersection. A Chevrolet Aveo driving behind her tried to stop but crashed into the back of her SUV.

A passenger in the Chevy, 18-year-old Brock Bement of Prairie Grove, suffered fatal injuries, authorities said. Holt and the Chevy driver, a minor who has not been identified, were listed as hurt.

Farmington police said the report was delayed a week while they waited for information from a traffic reconstruction specialist to investigate the crash.

Authorities have also released details about a separate fatal wreck that occurred last week.

Brandon Gowan, 35, of Searcy died after his vehicle overturned at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Arkansas 367 and Booth Road in Searcy, according to a separate Arkansas State Police report.

Troopers said Gowan was driving a 1997 Chevrolet east on the state highway when he failed to yield to a northbound 2003 Toyota. The Toyota then collided with a 2015 Ford traveling south.

A passenger in the Chevy, 44-year-old Dadtrick Arnold of Kensett, was injured in the three-car collision.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the wrecks.

At least 397 people have died in crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
