2 decomposed bodies found in vehicle off highway in Arkansas; link to missing-persons case investigated

Authorities are investigating whether decomposed bodies found in an apparent crash in Arkansas this week may belong to two people who have been missing for over a month, a police spokesman said.

The two bodies were discovered in a vehicle off the road along U.S. 65 near the city of Leslie, Sadler said. The vehicle was near a tree line that sometimes bears thick foliage, he said.

Sadler said the crash was found “because of the sharp eye of a trooper who just happened to look at the right time at the right place.” The trooper, he said, went back and searched for the vehicle.

“He just saw something that didn’t look right, he turned around and went back,” Sadler said.

Sadler said information on the case was forwarded to investigators in Warrensburg, Missouri, who he said suspect the bodies may be two people reported missing there. Sadler stressed that no determination on the identity of the remains had yet been made, and that the investigation is ongoing.

A message left with the Warrensburg Police Department wasn't immediately returned on Wednesday.

The bodies were sent to the state Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death.
