SAU's bike sharing racks up the miles

People using Southern Arkansas University's new bike-share program have logged more than 8,000 miles in its first six months, the school said.

The system, called Mule Rides, has been popular among students as well as the public, Carey Baker, SAU's dean of students, said in a news release.

The program provides 30 bicycles stationed at four hubs across the Magnolia campus. The bikes can be found and reserved with a mobile app. As of mid-August, there were 1,057 active bike users, according to SAU.

"We see our heaviest usage after 9 p.m.," Baker said. "It's cooler out and probably more fun to ride at night."
