Two central Arkansas families will compete on episodes of the TV game show Family Feud scheduled to air next week.

The Garrett family from Conway will appear on the show Sept. 17 and Sept. 19 and compete against the Crosby family from Bonner Springs, Kan.

The team, led by 40-year-old captain Korry Garrett, is made up of his wife, Shawnte Garrett, 38; cousin Winona Paige, 38; brother-in-law Steve Jackson, 28; and sister-in-law Jane Jackson, 28.

Garrett said the team auditioned in Little Rock for his aunt, who is a fan of the show but too afraid to travel.

“We watch the show all the time at home, and it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he said. "You get in there and have a good time, and if you have a lot of energy and excitement, they pick you."

Episodes airing Sept. 19 and Sept. 20 will also feature a Little Rock family pitted against the Herrings from Tarboro, N.C.

Captain Trayce Jones-Young, 40, said the Jones team will include her husband, Derrick Young, 50; sister Rhonda Simpson, 43; cousin Tira Jones, 47; and cousin Orlando Jones, 51.

The family auditioned in Little Rock in February and filmed the episode at the show's studio in Los Angeles.

"My family is very competitive, and that’s one of our favorite shows," Jones-Young said. "When I heard it was coming to Little Rock, I said, 'It’s too close to home to not even try out.'"

The Little Rock school district administrator added that her husband resembles Steve Harvey and had always wanted to meet the Family Feud host.

"We were anxious about meeting Steve Harvey, but he was down to earth," she said. "He makes you feel so at home and connects with each person in the audience."

Despite appearing at the audition in jeans and custom T-shirts when candidates were instructed to wear Sunday attire, all the recruiting agencies told the show to book the Joneses, Jones-Young said.

"I got intimidated a bit when I got out of the car, but I said, 'This will help us stand out," she said. "It was like no other experience. Everyone was warm and welcoming, and we felt glamorous."

In Little Rock, Family Feud airs at 5 p.m. on Fox affiliate KLRT-TV.
