Mwenso & the Shakes will perform at 8 p.m. today at South on Main in Little Rock. Tickets are $50.50, $48.25 and $40.25.
The show is the first in the club's 2018-19 Jazz Series. Michael Mwenso and his band are a Harlem-based group of jazz and blues musicians who credit the stylings of Fats Waller, Muddy Waters and James Brown as some of their many influences.
Born in Sierra Leone, Mwenso moved to London as a child and often was taken to Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club where he learned to love jazz and began performing at age 12, with James Brown noticing his talents and inviting him on stage. A decade later, Wynton Marsalis observed his talents and invited him to run the Jazz at Lincoln Center's late night jam at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola.
The band will also play at 8 p.m. Friday at Baum Walker Hall in Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville. Admission is $10.

Shonen Knife was formed as a pop/punk trio in Osaka, Japan, in 1991. The band contains original members, sisters Naoko and Atsuko Yamano, along with a drummer and bassist.

GGOOLLDD will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10.

The Steve 'N' Seagulls is a country band from Finland that plays bluegrass versions of hard rock and metal songs, including "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "November Rain." The five-man band's instrumentation includes banjo, mandolin, accordion, flute, balalaika, kantele, keyboards, double bass, drums and acoustic guitars.
