17-year-old shot in back while running away from would-be robbers, North Little Rock police say

A North Little Rock teenager was shot in the back Tuesday while running from three youths who tried to steal from him, according to a report.

Authorities said the 17-year-old victim met the trio at the Exxon on 3800 Camp Robinson Road in North Little Rock around 9:30 p.m.

One individual said, "You've got to come off something," referring to money, shoes or other items of monetary value, the report states. When the teen refused, he was punched in the left cheek, police said.

The victim then turned to run, and someone shot him in the back with a handgun, officers wrote. The bullet entered under his left right shoulder blade and exited just below his right collarbone.

Authorities said the youth ran south on Marion Street until he fell behind a Sonic Drive-In and called his stepfather, who took him to a nearby hospital.

No suspects were named and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
