Prostate cancer survivor lauded at musical night

Joel Anderson, chancellor emeritus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, was honored Sept. 6 at the Blue Ribbon Bash.

Benefiting the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation, the event was held at Chenal Country Club. Anderson, who retired as UALR chancellor in 2016, is a prostate cancer survivor.

Former U.S. Rep. Mike Ross and his wife, Holly, co-chaired the event. Christina Munoz Madsen was emcee and state Sen. Bruce Maloch of Magnolia was the auctioneer.

During the program, the Dr. Charles Logan Service Award was given to Jerry Jett. Pauline Anderson received the Women Fighting Prostate Cancer Award.

The night included a competitive silent auction featuring a number of "bucket-list" vacations, a VIP cocktail reception, a three-course dinner and dancing to the sounds of professor Michael Carenbauer and the UA Little Rock Jazz Combo.

The most popular item of the live auction was a seven-night stay at a five-bedroom, six-bath villa overlooking Lake Arenal in Vista Bonita Arenal, Costa Rica. The trip sold for $3,200.
