Northwest Arkansas police officer cleared in fatal shooting

A Northwest Arkansas officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing in a fatal shooting July 26, police said Thursday.

Springdale officer Trevor Bowen shot and killed 30-year-old Iman Joseph Buford after Buford refused to put down his gun when police told him to and continued to walk toward them, according to a news release issued by the agency in July.

Buford was pronounced dead at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Bowen was put on paid administrative leave after the incident pending the outcome of a State Police investigation. He has returned to work, police spokesman Lt. Jeff Taylor said Thursday.
