Angel makes the most out of team's loss

Francisco Arcia became the first modern day major league player to catch, pitch and hit a home run in the same game Thursday. But the Los Angeles Angels lost to Oakland 21-3.

Los Angeles Angels catcher Francisco Arcia became the first modern day player to catch, pitch and hit a home run in the same game during Thursday's 21-3 loss to Oakland.

For the first six innings of the game, Arcia was catching six different Angels pitchers. But after those six innings, the A's led the Angels 18-2, so Manager Mike Scioscia decided to save one of his unlimited relief pitchers and put Arcia on the mound.

Arcia got the first two outs of the seventh but then give up a single to A's catcher Josh Phegley, a two-run home run to left fielder Nick Martini and another home run to third baseman Chad Pinder. Arcia would go on to pitch a 1-2-3 eighth inning.

Then things got really weird in the top of the ninth inning. With two outs and the A's up 21-2, Arcia hit a home run off A's reliever Chris Hatcher.

So, for those fans that stuck around the Oakland Coliseum to watch the end of a bloodbath, they got to see something that has never happened in MLB history. Congratulations to them.

Lemon aid

Ole Miss punter Mac Brown had a pretty sweet idea that took off in a big way. He decided to open a lemonade stand to raise money for a friend's father who had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease), calling it the Awesome Lemonade Stand, with the goal of raising $500.

Well, that goal has been met, and then some.

The lemonade stand has been going since Brown was in seventh grade. It continues to raise money to benefit ALS research with almost $50,000 worth of donations.

"I really didn't think [it would get this big]," Brown said in an interview with USA Today."I wanted it to. Originally, it was just me and my buddies doing a lemonade stand. Now it's communities coming together [from] all over Minnesota ... It's awesome."

Snide remark

As if getting pummeled by Michigan in a Big Ten game wasn't bad enough, Nebraska got some serious shade thrown its way by a fast food restaurant Saturday.

With the Huskers well behind the Wolverines during the fourth quarter, Wendy's delivered a zinger to the Nebraska faithful, singling out Coach Scott Frost.

"Might need Scott Frosty to ice down the beating Nebraska is taking," the restaurant's official Twitter account wrote.

The eventual 56-10 loss to Michigan dropped Nebraska to 0-3. It's the first time since 1945 the Cornhuskers have lost three consecutive games to start the season.

Chip shot

While Colorado may have won big in its third game of the 2018 college football season last week against New Hampshire, Chip, the Buffaloes' sideline mascot may have lost feeling in his midsection when he accidentally fired a T-shirt cannon directly at his groin.

The horrific backfire forced Chip into the locker room during Colorado's 45-14 victory. Chip made it back to the sidelines before the game's end, but by that point the damage had already been done. Chip the Buffalo was known nationwide as the mascot who blasted his own male buffalo parts.

Chip appears to be taking full ownership of his wayward T-shirt shot. So much so, in fact, that he announced Thursday he'll be hosting his own Colorado golf tournament. Set for Oct. 5 with help from the Buffaloes' cheerleaders and dance team, the event is meant to raise money for CU jerseys, travel expenses and "better T-shirt cannons."
