• Joe Sedinger, sheriff in Autauga County, Ala., said deputies responding to an anonymous call of possible child abuse found a 13-year-old boy naked with chains padlocked around his ankles, resulting in the arrest of his mother, stepfather and grandmother.

• Dana Thomas Byrd, 30, was arrested by Florida police after fatally striking Dhimitri Andoni, 22, with his pickup while Andoni was helping a motorist on an interstate highway and then stealing Andoni's car, according to authorities.

• Charlotte Gill, owner of Charlotte's Legendary Lobster Pound in Southwest Harbor, Maine, and a state-licensed medical marijuana caregiver, is facing an investigation by state health inspectors after she said she started offering meat from lobsters that had been sedated with marijuana.

• Jeannette Jives-Nealy of Tennessee was sentenced to 24 years in prison on theft and money laundering charges for stealing $162,000 from a government program that provides funding for summer meals for poor children, using the money instead to travel and buy retail items.

• Thu Hong Nguyen, 46, who was convicted in 2013 of burning down her nail salon, was sentenced to 74 years in prison on second-degree murder, arson and assault charges after setting fire to a second nail salon, which resulted in the deaths of two Kansas City, Mo., firefighters.

• Edis Leonel Alas, 37, a man from El Salvador who was in the U.S. illegally, was sentenced to four life prison terms after snatching a 6-year-old Texas girl from her home and sexually assaulting her.

• Greg Phares, criminal deputy in Louisiana, said Lonnie Payne, who was serving 12 years for a burglary when he got past two prison security gates and escaped 15 years ago, was found and arrested in Mexico and is being held in Conroe, Texas.

• Robert Moni, 54, was charged with making a false report of a bomb, arson or weapons of mass destruction after, authorities in Florida said, he told a television station and sheriff's deputies that he was going to shoot down the sheriff's helicopter if it didn't stop flying over his house.

• Stephen Young, a spokesman for the sheriff's office in Limestone County, Ala., said a 15-year-old girl is accused of fatally stabbing her mother, Rosa Aminta Maldonado, 44, and sister, Rosa Lee Maldonado, 19, and was charged with two counts of capital murder.
