E-waste collectionto be held at arena

Pulaski County residents and workers can drop off their unwanted electronics for recycling at Verizon Arena this week.

The Regional Recycling District in Pulaski County will host its fall electronics recycling collection Tuesday and Wednesday at the Verizon Arena VIP parking lot on East Washington Avenue in North Little Rock. The collection lasts from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. both days.

The district is a state solid waste district operating only in Pulaski County.

The drop-off is free, but anyone wishing to drop off electronics must show a driver's license or other form of identification that shows they live in Pulaski County. Pulaski County businesses or other organizations also can drop off electronics.

The district will unload the electronics, which can include computers and printers, televisions, copiers, cellphones and old VCRs, according to the district's announcement.

Eighty-one tons of electronics were collected at the district's last two-day drop-off event at Verizon Arena.

U.S. loans $2.5Mto 3 state utilities

Three Arkansas utilities have received more than $2.5 million together in federal loans to construct or upgrade features of their water utilities, according to an announcement last week by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development office.

The office awarded a $1.2 million loan to Huntsville to build a storage tank that will serve about 1,400 customers. The tank also will ease water pressure and maintenance on an existing water tank, according to the announcement.

Stuttgart received a $1.05 million loan to replace waterlines for its 9,300 customers, and the Ladd Water Users Association received a $380,000 loan to replace asbestos-cement waterlines, benefiting its 863 customers in Jefferson and Lincoln counties.

Nationwide, the Rural Development office gave $392 million in loans and grants to projects benefiting about 442,000 people in 42 states, according to the news release.

Trash pickup seton Buffalo River

Buffalo River Partners will host a trash cleanup along the Buffalo River, according to an announcement from the group last week.

The cleanup will be on Public Lands Day this Saturday.

People who wish to volunteer are asked sign up at www.bnrpartners.org. Buffalo River Float Service will provide canoes and shuttles.

Volunteers should meet at about 9:30 a.m. at the Arkansas 14 bridge. From there, they can take a shuttle to Spring Creek.

Volunteers are urged to bring lunch, drinks and tools for picking up trash. Buffalo River Partners will provide bags, gloves, a snack and extra drinking water.
