Sheriff's office: 51-year-old arrested in death of man found near central Arkansas bridge

A 51-year-old central Arkansas man was arrested Friday in a July killing, authorities said.

Joe B. Nowell of Conway faces a capital murder charge in the death of 60-year-old William Ray Holt, according to Faulkner County sheriff's office spokeswoman Erinn Stone. Nowell was being held Monday afternoon at the Faulkner County jail, records show.

Stone said authorities obtained a warrant and arrested the 51-year-old last week but didn’t offer any other details.

Nowell’s first appearance in court was set for Monday, Stone said. The spokeswoman didn’t have information about his bail, and an online inmate roster did not list a bail amount.

The Democrat-Gazette previously reported that that authorities found Holt, a homeless man, at the Cadron Creek bridge on Arkansas 287 shortly before 8 p.m. July 24.
