Girl, 7, riding in vehicle with grandparents struck by gunfire from altercation, Arkansas authorities say

A 7-year-old girl was struck by gunfire from an altercation in another vehicle while riding with her grandparents Tuesday night in Pine Bluff, authorities said.

The girl was hit in the arm and leg with injuries police described as non-life threatening. No arrests have been made.

The Pine Bluff Police Department said in a statement that shots were fired around 8 p.m. during an "altercation of some kind" inside a Chevrolet Avalanche stopped at a red light at 28th Avenue and Catalpa Street.

A passenger ran from the vehicle and more shots were fired at him, police wrote, noting the "bullets struck another vehicle not involved in the original altercation."

The girl, who was inside that vehicle, was hit. She was treated and released at a local hospital.

The passenger who fled was shot in the hand. He was not identified in the statement, but authorities said detectives are questioning him.
