Sandra Sell

Where I live: In the Woodyardville neighborhood, about two miles east of the Little Rock city limits.

Occupation: Full-time artist — drawing, painting and carving wood.

My favorite space is: The studio/gallery space I have developed is on my partially wooded 4-acre home lot. It provides me proximity to the city with the benefits of country living and ample space for out buildings and multiple pets.

Why? I have created this space with complete freedom to express, explore and reflect on the art process. It is the space where I turn off the rest of the world and ask my editing mind to disregard the should, would or could way of thinking by just doing. I have developed a safe space by allowing myself to express freely. Not every artistic expression I work on makes it to the finished gallery. Some works are specifically intended for the learning aspect of creativity, but every work is necessary in the process of developing one's skills.

Without a space of creative freedom I would not be living a healthy or happy life. I have been creating safe expression spaces all my life, starting with childhood forts all the way up to my present studio/gallery space.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Add a functioning bathroom with a utility sink.
