PREP BASEBALL
Greenwood 9-10, Siloam Springs 6-2
Peyton Holt helped spark Greenwood to a big 5A-West Conference baseball sweep Tuesday at Siloam Springs.
Holt had five hits, scored three runs and drove in six runs as the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader against the Panthers at James Butts Baseball Park.
Holt had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs as Greenwood jumped out to an early 7-0 lead before eventually holding on for a 9-6 victory in game one.
Holt's two-run single capped a four-run second inning as Greenwood led 5-0, and his two-run double made it 7-0 in the third.
Siloam Springs responded with five runs in the bottom of the third, including a three-run home run by Baron Meek to make it 7-5. Taylor Pool hit a solo shot for the Panthers in the fifth to make it 7-6.
A throwing error allowed Greenwood to add two insurance runs in the top of the seventh, and Landry Jurecka finished a complete game victory and gave coach Trey Holloway his 100th win. Landon Ellis was saddled with the loss for Siloam Springs. Jace Presley added two hits and two runs scored for Greenwood, which took advantage of six Siloam Springs errors.
Holt crushed a two-run home run in game two as Greenwood took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Ethan Williams and Preston Jurecka also had RBI hits in the inning. Reed Carroll's RBI gave Greenwood a 5-0 lead in the third.
A.J. Serrano had a two-run double to pull Siloam Springs (7-12, 5-3) within 5-2 in the third, but Greenwood came back with four in the sixth and one more in the seventh to take the 10-2 win. Matthew Munday had a two-run double in the sixth inning, and Preston Jurecka also had an RBI hit.
Colton Sagely led Greenwood with three hits and scored two runs in game two, while Holt, Preston Jurecka and Presley each had two hits.
Nick Phelps got the win in game two for Greenwood (13-7, 4-4), pitching six innings while Holt closed out the game in the seventh. Sophomore Gavin Henson took the loss for Siloam Springs.
Charleston 10, Cedarville 0
Dalton Curtis threw a three-hitter over five innings, and Kaden Benge hit a home run to lead Charleston to a 3A-1 West Conference win at home over Cedarville.
Curtis needed only 62 pitches to finish the outing and struck out five batters. Charleston (14-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, thanks to RBI singles by Dean Lea and Drew Dooly, then erupted for five runs in the third as Lea hit an RBI triple and Benge belted his two-run shot.
Lea and Hunter Kengla each had two hits to lead the Tigers' offense.
Booneville 11, Lamar 8
Cam Brasher had two hits and drove in four runs as Booneville outslugged Lamar in a 3A-4 Conference game in Booneville.
Booneville (10-7) scored in every inning and led 7-1 after four innings before Lamar scored three runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh. Seven Bearcat batters had at least two hits, with Jacob Herrera and Carson Ray having three apiece.
Ike Pelts had a home run and finished with three hits and two RBIs for Lamar, while Jacob Key also had three hits. Zach West added two hits and drove in three for the Warriors (8-7).
Providence Academy 12, Berryville 1
A five-run first inning gave Providence all the offense it needed to defeat Berryville in nonconference action at Berryville.
Luke Medlin scattered six hits over five innings and helped his cause with three RBIs to lead the Patriots (5-5), while C.J. Freeman and Ben Flowers each had two RBIs. Flowers and Stewart Bivens had two hits apiece for Providence, which scored six more runs in the third.
Kooper Logan singled and scored the lone run in the second for Berryville (7-6), which returns to 4A-1 Conference play today at Gentry.
Atkins 9, Paris 1
Atkins did all its scoring in the first three innings and defeated Paris in a 3A-4 Conference game at Paris.
The Red Devils erupted for four runs in the first, then had another four-run outburst in the third.
Anthony Potts had two hits and scored the lone run for Paris (2-8) when he singled in the fourth and scored on an error.
Lavaca 14, Hackett 0
Trey Castor threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts, and Lavaca sported a balanced offensive attack in its victory over Hackett.
All but one Lavaca batter had at least one hit and drove in at least one run as the Golden Arrows (7-2, 4-0) scored five runs in the third inning and six more in the fifth. Kaw-Liga Brewer and Tyler Armistead each had two hits and drove in two runs for Lavaca.
PREP SOFTBALL
Charleston 10-8, Cedarville 0-7
A Cedarville error allowed Sierra Montgomery to score the go-ahead run in the fourth inning as Charleston completed a 3A-1 West Conference doubleheader sweep at Cedarville.
Montgomery scored after she was hit by a pitch, and the unearned run came after both teams scored six times in the third inning. Montgomery had two hits and drove in two runs while Mackenzie Biggers had a hit and three walks, drove in two runs and scored twice for Charleston (11-3).
In the first game, Rylee Ross threw a three-hitter and struck out 10 batters while Charleston pulled away with a seven-run outburst in the fourth inning.
Ross helped her cause with two hits and drove in three runs, while Stormy French and Addison Newhart had two hits apiece. Sidney Tate drove two runs for the Lady Tigers.
Berryville 8, Valley Springs 5
A four-run seventh completed Berryville's comeback as the Lady Bobcats defeated Valley Springs in a nonconference game.
Berryville (10-8) tied the game when Lora Grace Hill's single drove in Taylor Kelley, who reached on a two-base error. Kate Powell followed with an infield single to drive in Hill with the go-ahead run, then the Lady Bobcats scored two more on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Hayley Rivett.
Valley Springs (7-7) did all of its scoring in the third, thanks to a two-run single by Makenzie Graves and RBI hits by Bailey Bryant, Haylie Fry and Kasia McCurrin.
Paris 6, Atkins 1
Jadyn Hart had an RBI double as part of a four-run fourth, then added a solo home run as Paris defeated Atkins in 3A-4 Conference play.
Monica Broadbent snapped a 1-1 tie when her bunt single scored Karsyn Tencleve, who earlier reached on a single. Lexy Lee's RBI groundout made it a 3-1 game, then Hart drove in Broadbent with her double and scored on Sydney Ward's single.
Hart settled down after allowing a first-inning run and threw a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts.
Waldron 11, Mansfield 5
Rhegan Sanford had three hits and six other Waldron players had two hits apiece as the Lady Bulldogs defeated Mansfield in a 3A-1 West Conference game.
Mackenzie Callahan drove in a team-high four RBIs for Waldron (11-5), which led 5-4 after one inning and pulled away with two runs in the second and two more in third. Saige Mahar scored three of the Lady Bulldogs' runs.
Elkins 11, Lincoln 0
Cailey Reed threw a no-hitter over six innings and struck out 13 batters as Elkins defeated Lincoln in 3A-1 West Conference action.
Reed helped her cause with a pair of triples, including a two-run triple to force the 10-run rule in the sixth, and drove in three runs as the Lady Elks scored five runs in the second. Ashley Brink had three hits and three RBIs, while Allison Coleman and Lilli Carmer added two hits apiece in Elkins' 11-hit attack.
Reed struck out the first eight batters she faced, and the only blemish she had was a leadoff walk to Landree Cunningham to start the sixth.
PREP SOCCER
Girls
Fayetteville 6, Springdale Har-Ber 1
Fayetteville scored four of its six goals in the second half to defeat Springdale Har-Ber.
Regan Resz scored two goals to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Skyler Vanzant, Miranda Nelson, Georgia Templeton and Morgan Browning also scored goals for Fayetteville.
Harrison 8, Berryville 1
Sydney Shrum and Brylie Parker each had two goals in the first half as Harrison rolled to a 4A-West Conference win over Berryville.
Harrison (12-3, 3-0) jumped out to a 7-1 halftime lead as Kenzie Parker, Olivia Pall and Elise Bell each scored a goal, while Brylie Parker picked up an assist with a corner kick to Shrum. Mattie Richardson had the only Lady Goblins' goal in the shortened second half because of the sportsmanship rule.
Makayla Campbell recorded four saves in the first half, while Maggie Salmon had two saves in the second half.
Boys
Springdale 4, Van Buren 2
In a match with two teams near the top the 6A-West Conference standings, Springdale High was able to stay unbeaten in league play with a road victory against Van Buren at Blakemore Field.
Springdale (8-2, 7-0) took a 2-1 lead heading into the break by scoring the final goal of the first half.
Van Buren's Jimmy Viella was able to score the initial goal of the game to give the Pointers (8-5, 4-3) a 1-0 lead with about 28 minutes left in the first half. Springdale was quickly able to match that score and then take a 2-1 edge with a goal from Jose Vega in the 24th minute of the game.
The Bulldogs didn't wait long to add to their lead in the second half. Rene Recinos scored just a minute after the break to make it a 3-1 lead for Springdale. Vega scored again for Springdale to extend its lead out to 4-1 with 26 minutes left in the match.
Van Buren was able to cut into the lead to make it just 4-2 with a goal from Isaac Delafuente with just 23 minutes left in the game. The Pointers couldn't get any closer after that despite the Bulldogs playing down the stretch of the game without a man because of penalty cards.
Rogers High 5, Rogers Heritage 0
The Mounties jumped to a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised to the 6A-West Conference win Tuesday night.
Esteban Chavez and Frankie Jimenez scored two goals each for the Mounties (7-4-2, 4-3 6A-West), while Andrews Saldierna added a goal. Rogers has now won two straight matches, after losing three in a row. Rogers Heritage dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
Harrison 5, Berryville 0
Hunter Holtby had two goals in the first half to lead Harrison past Berryville in 4A-West Conference action.
Holtby scored off an assist from Spencer Bailey midway through the first half, then the two combined for a goal in the final minute of the first half. Holtby had the assist on Corbin Simpson's goal that gave the Goblins (9-4-1, 2-1) a 1-0 lead, while Jacob Shrum's goal gave Harrison a 4-0 halftime cushion. Simpson scored again for the Goblins' only second-half goal.
Rilee Jones had three saves on goal for the Goblins.
