Lake Bell and Dax Shepherd in Bless This Mess - Couple seeks the simple life on new ABC sitcom

When ABC premieres its new single-camera comedy Bless This Mess, viewers might make some comparisons to Green Acres, minus the classic '60s clothing, Sam Drucker's store and the hapless Eb Dawson. Throw in some strange Children of the Corn vibes and the dust bowl from The Grapes of Wrath, and you'd be closer to the truth. It's not a reinvention of the comedy wheel, but it should be good for laughs.

The story revolves around newlyweds Mike (Dax Shepherd) and Rio (Lake Bell), who make the decision to move from New York to Nebraska after Mike inherits his late aunt's farm. The house, which they plan to renovate, is ramshackle, the farm is played out and there is a strange man living in the barn (Ed Begley Jr.). As expected, it doesn't take long for the couple to realize the "simpler" life they hoped for isn't as easy as they planned or thought.

Pam Grier stars as the owner of the local mercantile as well as the sheriff of the small town, and Lennon Parham and David Koechner star as a neighboring couple who are itching to buy the property from the couple.

The pilot, which was written and directed by Bell, airs at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on ABC.
