Cajun's Wharf Revisited

The end of an era is just around the corner when Cajun’s Wharf in Little Rock closes its doors June 1.

Many of us have fond memories of time spent there. It has been around for 44 years! In college it was a go-to place when we were in town to meet friends, listen to music and dance.

I spent many a night out on that dance floor! As I aged, it became a date night restaurant or a special event place, even a work holiday party site. When the deck expanded, it was a favorite meeting place for cocktails and an appetizer with friends.

Last year, our daughter and son-in-law had their rehearsal dinner there. So there are a lot of memories I have from Cajun’s Wharf.

Since they announced their closing, the place has been packed every night (I hear). I have already been twice—once with family

and once with friends,

and both times it was crowded and it was a Monday both times. We ran into even more friends up on the deck.

I think the owner Mary Beth was wise to give everyone a heads up and give them time to visit and revisit before it closes. It will go out on a high.

It is a unique restaurant in a unique setting.

Watching the water traffic go by, or watching the sun set over the river,

it is a beautiful spot. The food isn’t bad either from a plethora of seafood to steaks and even a pasta dish. The oysters Bienville are a favorite of my husbands, and we used to get the crab au gratin all the time. If you are in the mood, their signature Play-de-do drink is still being served in a take home glass (think Pat O’Brien’s hurricane drink).

We have several jars gathering dust in a cabinet, as I don’t drink them anymore.

Whether you are a perennial fan of Cajun’s Wharf, or you have never been, make plans to visit at least one more time before it closes. You won’t be alone, and you will have a great time.
