Jason Pederson

Where I live: We live in the Little Rock neighborhood of Otter Creek.

Occupation: I am the Seven-On-Your-Side consumer reporter for KATV.

My favorite space is: our family room. I'd call it our living room but we mostly watch TV in there and that's not exactly living.

Why? It's the only room in the house where our dogs are welcome. It's actually one long room -- kitchen, dining area and family room. So it's where most of our family meals take place. Outside of our bedroom it is the room where you would most likely catch me sleeping. It's the only room where a couch has been worn out, where a recliner has been worn out, where the carpet hasn't been replaced, where on the walls hang evidence of our best days and our worst days. It is unpretentious. It's where you are most likely to find me reading a newspaper or my wife, Mary Carol, drinking a Diet Coke and having her quiet time. Where our daughter watches episodes of Friends or Gilmore Girls and where our son used to watch Black Mirror or The Office (he is 19 and no longer lives at home). It offers a view of and passage to the backyard. The family room, to me, is pets and pizza and parties. It's Seinfeld and smartphones and sharing. It's life and laughter and love.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: get the fireplace operational, either with a gas insert or with a good chimney cleaning.
