A very Good Friday

It was a very good Friday in more ways than one. The beginning of the Easter holiday weekend and Passover, and also my birthday. Birthdays are celebrated in the Carson household, which is a carryover from the Biermann household. And a celebration it was! Clay made me a wonderful breakfast and I was treated to some great gifts including my own olive tree, so we will see how that grows. I also got a large hibiscus. We then went with friends to the horse races at Oaklawn. I go maybe once a year and I am not a big gambler, but it is a fun event, especially with good friends.

I think in honor of my birthday, I actually was the only one winning in our group. I do love to cash a ticket, and I did in every race but two. I came out the big winner for the day with a whopping $4.70--in my opinion anything over what you spent on tickets is a great thing! My first ticket was for a long shot Moon Dog Spot--his first time racing and he won!

I only had him to show so I only got $8.40 but that is a good return on a $4 ticket. I am quite scientific on how I pick my horses--it has to do with their names. I am into dogs, so I picked him, plus I like going with the long shots, not the favorites--anyone can pick those. I also thought he might have beginners luck, since it was his first big race, and he did.

I also picked the winner in the 2nd and 4th races. I picked the 4th horse Take Charge Erica after my hairdressers daughter Erica. My big win was the last race we were there for with Robyn's Lucky Lizard after my long time travel agent Robyn Gulstrum. I went out big placing $2 to win place and show instead of just $2 to show. Another long shot but she came in 2nd and paid me $23.6o. I was elated.

A few of my horses were not so lucky. I think one or two came in dead last, but they tried.

Martha Ray was giving us pointers and while I know about the daily double and bet on that and lost, (although I had half of it with Moon Dog Spot--but the other half Fried Baloney didn't run fast enough). I also tried my hand at two trifectas which I boxed--doesn't that sound impressive--I had to write it down before I placed the bet so I could remember what to ask for! I lost. I went back to just names. I am not there about the money but about the experience and cashing tickets!! We had a great time. We left early because a few more folks were joining us for dinner at my house later--with my son cooking.

We had a wonderful meal

and even better conversation.

Good cake too, even though I am not a cake eater.

It was the perfect ending to the perfect birthday--surrounded by family and friends. 61 is starting off superbly!
