Washington County

Abrahamic Faiths Group, meeting at the Islamic Center of Northwest Arkansas, 1420 W. Center St. in Fayetteville, will discuss "The Practice of Prayer in the Abrahamic Faiths Tradition" at 7 p.m. April 30.

Panelists are the Rev. Phil Butin; Rabbi Jacob Adler; Raiyan Syed, public relations for the Center; Mehmet Ulipinar, Arkansas Culture and Dialog Center; and the Rev. John King, moderator.

A time for conversation and refreshments will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Butterfield Trail Village, 1923 E. Joyce Blvd. in Fayetteville, will host a prayer meeting observing the National Day of Prayer at 10 a.m. May 2 in the community's performance hall.

The Springdale Mayor's Prayer Breakfast will begin at 6:30 a.m. May 2 at Cross Church, 1709 Johnson Road in Springdale, in conjunction with National Day of Prayer events celebrated across the country that day.

The Mayor's Prayer Breakfast is a nondenominational event that includes music, Scripture reading and prayer from community leaders and pastors. Doors open at 6:00am.

The Springdale Mayor's Prayer Breakfast is the largest event of its kind in Northwest Arkansas. This year's keynote speaker is former Razorback and NFL running back Peyton Hillis. Past year's guest speakers have included the Rev. Brent Fairchild, Jimmy Dykes, Asa Hutchinson, Coach Ken Hatfield and Gary Oliver.

"We believe by moving the prayer breakfast to different churches each year, we will get even better engagement and participation from the entire community. We are so excited Cross Church has opened its doors to host this year's event," says Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse.

The proceeds from this event will go to the Children's Safety Center.

Tickets are $15 each at Springdale churches, the Springdale Chamber of Commerce and the Jones Center.

Benton County

Bella Vista Christian Women's Connection, at Bella Visa Community Church, 75 Lancashire Blvd., will meet at 9 a.m. May 14. The public in invited.

The featured speaker is author BJ Tassin, who will be speaking about "Tapping Into Your Treasures." Her first novel, Bona-Fide, is selling worldwide, and she recently received recognition as Bella Vista Artist of the Month. The guest speaker is Pam Wilson from Loudon, Tenn., speaking about "Professional Volunteerism."

This brunch is held the second Tuesday of each month, and an all-American breakfast is served for $10. The program is sponsored by Stonecroft Ministries.

The Prayer Connection meets at 9 a.m. May 7 at St. Theodore's Episcopal Church, 1001 Kingsland Road in Bella Vista.

Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., opens its chapel for the National Day of Prayer from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 2. Join in pastor-led prayer from noon to 12:30 p.m.

Summer Arts Camp is Monday through Friday, June 17-21, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for kids entering grades one through six. More information is available at the Information Center on Sunday mornings or online at bvcc.net. This year features exciting new classes such as clay, weaving and dance including tap and ballet. Classes fill up quickly. Registration ends June 10.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., hosts a special worship service at 11:30 a.m. May 7 for those that are unable to attend a regular worship service. Following the service, a lunch will be served. Anyone in need of transportation should contact the church office at 855-0272.

The Shepherd's Food Pantry is open every Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. Volunteers and donors were able to help 100 families with food that they could use during the Easter holiday. They are also collecting "Best Choice" PVC labels, which they can redeem for items that they purchase to help those in need. A container for your donations is in the church narthex.

The Quilters of Bella Vista Lutheran Church are in need of sheets to be used for backing of the quilts they make for Lutheran World Relief. Sheets do not need to be new but need to be in good shape. All sheet sizes are welcome.

The Men's Bible Class meets on Mondays at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Please park in the rear parking lot and enter the lower level.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, hosts a grief support group, facilitated by the Rev. Brenda Wideman, at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday through May 7 in the chapel. A new session will begin in the fall. All are welcome.

Broc Hite will present an organ recital of works by Howells, Stanford and Widor at 12:10 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary. All are welcome.

Lunch with the pastors will begin at noon Sunday in the parlor. This is an opportunity to share in fellowship with those who have recently joined the church and with visitors who may be interested in the church. Please call the office to RSVP. Childcare will be provided if requested ahead of time.

A new grandparents support group is being formed for grandparents who are raising grandchildren. The second meeting is at 3 p.m. Sunday in the parlor. If there is enough interest, this will become an ongoing support group and is open to all in the community.

The burning of the 43-year-old church mortgage will take place at 9 a.m. May 5.

The prayer shawl ministry meets on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. in the parlor. If you would like to learn how to knit, they will be happy to instruct you. The shawls are given to shut-ins, those who are grieving and others in times of need. Each shawl is prayed over and blessed as it is being lovingly made.

Organizers have added a boutique this year with fashionable items such as nearly new scarves, wraps, jewelry, art and so forth. There will also be furniture, household items, linens, antiques, glassware and tools. A coffee shop is available.

This ministry is available to anyone in the area who needs help with groceries and would appreciate the compassion and encouragement of friendly volunteers. There will be no potluck fellowship dinner or other activities this evening due to the planned National Day of Prayer Service.

On May 2, a National Day of Prayer Service will be held at the church at 6:30 p.m., and the community is invited. A reception follows.
