Woodcarvers

Woodcarvers of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 1:15 p.m. Aug. 11 in the Foxfire building, 37th and Walnut streets in Rogers, to discuss the show Sept. 7-8 at Frisco Station Mall in Rogers.

Computers

The Bella Vista Computer Club will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 in Room 1001 on the lower level of the Highlands Crossing Center, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd. The presentation, "An Introduction to Viber," will be presented by Joel Ewing, club president. Viber is a free, multiplatform communication application that supports free and secure messaging, phone and video-phone communication over the internet to other Viber users. It is functionally similar to Skype and WhatsApp, and is supported on Apple platforms (iPhone, iPad, Mac), Androids, MS Windows and Linux.

Club meetings are free and open to the public.

Benefits of club membership include free classes on computer topics selected by the club, free remote online support at other times and free help for any computerized device at twice-monthly Open House Help Clinic sessions. Advance signup is required to attend classes.

Open House Help Clinic sessions are a free service for club members. They are held from 9 a.m. to noon the first Saturday and the third Wednesday of each month at BVCC's Training Center at the Highlands Crossings Center, Suite 208. The next Help Clinic is Aug. 21.

The currently scheduled class for August is "Computer Security for Regular People: Part 1" presented by Justin Sell, owner of Bella Vista Computer Services, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 20.

BVCC also has a Genealogy Special Interest Group that will meet at 10 a.m. Aug 17.

The yearly membership is $20 for the first member in a household and $10 for each additional member in the same household.

Democrats

The Democratic Party of Benton County will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at Mimi's Cafe, 2105 S. Promenade Blvd. in Rogers. It's an opportunity to make friends, have fun, learn something, share open communication and have an actionable item at each meeting.

Legion 341

Bella Vista's American Legion Post 341 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 in the meeting hall, 1889 Bella Vista Way in Bella Vista.

The post hosts "Coffee With the Commander" for members on the first and third Saturday mornings of each month and the breakfast buffets on the second and fourth Saturday mornings. These buffets are open to members and the public.

Lunches are served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, featuring a casual-themed menu.

Taco Tuesday nights are followed by Fish Fridays each week. Wednesday nights are devoted to trivia contests and Thursday night karaoke. Meal services on these evenings feature a casual-themed menu. All events are open to members and the public.

Saturday evenings are dance nights open to members and the public starting at 7 p.m. These events feature local musical groups. Food on Saturday evenings is limited but available from 4 to 7 p.m. Finally, the meeting hall is open to the public for rental on an as-available basis.

Nature Society

The Flower, Garden and Nature Society of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 at Northwest Technical Institute in the student center at 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale.

Tom Krohn will be the guest speaker. He is Arkansas regional coordinator for FrogWatch USA, which is a national long-term acoustical survey of breeding frogs and toads. Krohn is trying to save the state's frog and toad populations by offering sessions on amphibian calls.

First-time visitors are welcome.

Orchids

The Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. Newcomers are invited to attend, as there will ample time available to question experienced growers. An educational program is planned. The annual orchid auction will open for preview at noon on Sept. 15.

The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Frequent presentations by renowned growers offer education and quality plants for sale. Monthly judging displays often include 30 to 40 blooming plants, while monthly raffles offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

Ostomates

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Support group will meet Aug. 18 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Blvd. in Springdale. An education and information program starts at 1 p.m. and the general meeting begins at 2 p.m. CBI65 will speak this month discussing insurance updates for next year.

GOP Women

The Siloam Springs Republican Women will host the Benton County Republican Committee at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Compass Fellowship Building, 318 Main St. in Siloam Springs. Refreshments will be served, followed by the guest speaker Tim Griffin, lieutenant governor of Arkansas. Guests are welcomed including students and gentlemen.

Gardeners

The Bella Vista Garden Club will meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 28 at the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd. Social time and refreshments begin at 9:30 a.m. Guests are always welcome to attend and may become members at any time throughout the year. Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

The August program will include a presentation by Terri Waterman titled "Flower Power." Each meeting also includes an artistic design of the month and horticultural information provided by club members. Frequently, there are Q&A sessions in which members and guests can seek answers from the Master Gardeners in attendance.

The club will also host a National Garden Club Standard Flower Show from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies at the Northwest Arkansas Community College, 1000 S.E. Eagle Way in Bentonville.
