The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will include two fields in Northwest Arkansas among its leased private-land permit hunts for dove.
The field in Washington County, near Lincoln, is planted in millet and will be hunted for two weekends. It will have 16 hunting stations for two hunters each. The Benton County field, near Siloam Springs, is a sunflower field that will be available for hunting Sept. 1-2, Sept. 7-8 and Sept. 14-15. It will have 20 hunting stations.
The two other leased fields are in Lonoke and Prairie counties.
Licensed hunters have until midnight Thursday to apply for a permit to hunt any of the four fields. Winners will be drawn and notified by email, with a hyperlink included for directions to their field. The fields will be listed by county on the application form on www.agfc.com.
A licensed hunter is allowed one application and may make two choices among either the weekends desired or the fields. The cost to apply is a nonrefundable five dollars. Hunters who are selected may bring one additional hunter of any age with them to the hunt for both weekend days, but anyone 16 years and older must have a hunting license.
Game and Fish began the permit-only dove hunts on the 20-acre leased field in Lonoke County two years ago. Demand for permits the past two years prompted the agency to add an additional field in east-central Arkansas along with the fields in Washington and Benton counties for the dove season, which opens Sept. 1.
