Cyclists seek trail workers
Ozark Off Road Cyclists seek volunteers for trail maintenance at Mount Kessler park in Fayetteville on Sunday and on Aug. 24. Volunteers may work anytime from 8 a.m. to noon. Meet at the trailhead on the back side of the park.

Ash trees focus of hike
Hikers will learn about one of Arkansas' rarest trees, the blue ash, on Aug. 24 during a hike on the Back 40 trails in Bella Vista.
The hike is from 9 a.m. to noon starting at the Buckingham trailhead off Trafalgar Road at Buckingham Drive. The hike is 2.5 miles on dirt trail and is moderately difficult.
Fred Paillet, professor of geoscience at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and an emeritus scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey, will lead the hike. The city of Bella Vista sponsors the monthly Back 40 hikes.
Trail volunteers needed at park
Volunteers are needed to help with trail maintenance on Saturdays during August at Devil's Den State Park.
Groups or individuals can work as long or as little as they like anytime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Any skill level can participate. Work includes brush cutting, weed clearing, litter pickup, branch removal and more.

Hobbs offers kayak trips
Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area offers several sunset kayak trips on Beaver Lake in August.
Sunset kayak tours will be from 7 to 10 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 29. A full moon kayak tour will be from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday. Kayaks, paddles and life jackets are provided.
Cost is $25 plus tax for adults and $12 plus tax for youngsters 9 to 12.

Service offers saw training
Registration is open for a free chain saw class the U.S. Forest Service will offer Nov. 1-2 at Lake Wedington.
The class involves hands-on chain saw operation as well as saw maintenance and repair. Forest Service chain saw experts will teach the class. Students will receive a National Sawyer Certification card that is valid for three years.
Registration must be completed by Oct. 11. Include your name, postal address, email address and phone number. To register, email Barbara Leimer, baleimer@fs.fed.us. The class is limited to 15 students.
Students should provide their own saw, hearing and eye protection and chain saw chaps if they have them. Some chaps will be available for use at the class.
Park welcomes outdoors women
Bull Shoals-White River State Park near Flippin will host Women's Outdoor Weekend Oct. 4-6.
During this three-day and two-night workshop, participants will attend different sessions on basic camping and backpacking, bird watching, beginner fly fishing, kayaking and Dutch oven cooking and more. Students will have plenty of free time to relax and enjoy the park.
All gear and meals are included in registration fee of $135. Deadline to register is Sept. 27.
