Fleet Reserve

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Support Group will meet Aug. 18 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Blvd. in Springdale. The education and information meeting begins at 1 p.m., and a general meeting, including insurance updates, starts at 2 pm.

SUV

The McPherson Camp, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at Foghorn's, 2221 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. Members meet for dinner at 6:30 p.m. The group is a patriotic fraternal organization open to all males who are descendants of Union soldiers or sailors.

Pieces 'N Patches

Pieces 'N Patches quilt group will meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers. The workshop will be lead by Judy Irish of Wild Irish Rows Quilting. The workshop will feature a collage quilt.

There is a charge for nonmembers.

The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month for programs and at 10 a.m. on the third Monday for workshops. Visitors are welcome.

GOP Women

The Benton County Republican Women will meet at noon Aug. 20 at the Pleasant Crossing Golden Corral in Rogers.

Julie Harris, third vice president of the National Federation of Republican Women, will make a presentation. Harris has a history of service to Republican women and will give a brief history of the AFRW and NFRW.

BCRW meets the third Tuesday of each month. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m.

Stitched With Love

Stitched With Love will meet at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 20 at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Davis St. in Pea Ridge. The club is a nonprofit organization formed for the purpose of sewing quilts, hats and pillows for children at Arkansas Children's Hospital. The club meets the third Tuesday of each month.

Mabel McKinney, a lifetime resident of Pea Ridge, will be showing her collection of quilt tops she has amassed over the years and tell their stories. She will be joined by her daughter, Jane Cooley.

Bring completed quilts and batting scraps to stuff pillows. Also bring scissors, as the group will be cutting batting for new kits. New members are welcome.

Democrats

Senior Democrats will meet at noon Aug. 20 at the Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be David Couch from Little Rock, an attorney who specializes in nursing home abuse. He has also been instrumental in getting petition drives for constitutional amendments on the ballot. He will be addressing "Constitutional Amendments Restricting Voter Initiatives."

Civil War

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at the General Store on the grounds of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson Ave. in Springdale. Tim Beck of Bentonville will present a program on the history of the 22nd Arkansas Infantry Regiment. The meeting is free and open to anyone with an interest in Civil War history.

Up In Arms

Up In Arms quilt guild will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 22 at B-Sew-In, 2910 N. McKee Circle in Fayetteville. The program is a lecture and demonstration by Judy Irish. She quilts for a number of quilting stars including Kaffe Fassett. Her website is WildIrishRowsQuilting.com. There is a nonmember fee of $30, and visitors are welcome.

QUILT

Quilters United in Learning Together will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St. in Springdale. The guest speaker will be Judy Irish. The program starts 6:30 p.m. Come at 6 p.m. to check out the upcoming speakers and workshops and to learn more about QUILT. Guests may attend one meeting for free and then are asked to join.

QUILT will host Judy Irish's Threadplay workshop on Aug. 23 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church NWA, 2901 E. Zion Road in Fayetteville. Registration is required.

MUFON

The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the Mutual UFO Network will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 24 in the Ann Henry meeting room at the Fayetteville Public Library. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in the UFO phenomenon.

Cemeteries

The Washington County Cemetery Preservation Group will hold a public meeting and cemetery workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 24 at the historic School Building at the Mount Comfort Cemetery, 3249 W. Mount Comfort Road in Fayetteville.

The meeting will have a program about endangered cemeteries in Washington County as well as a question-and-answer session. There will also be a short program about the history of the Mount Comfort Church and school and the restoration of East Mountain Cemetery.

Following the meeting, there will be a demonstration at the historic Mount Comfort Cemetery on the proper way to clean a tombstone using D/2.

The public is invited to attend. Refreshments and snacks will be served.

Calico Cut Ups

The Calico Cut Ups quilt guild will meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at the United Methodist Church at 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista. The speaker will be Judy Vore, who will give a lecture and trunk show titled "Panel Mania," providing inspiration and creative examples of the use of panels in piecing beautiful quilt tops.

Vore is from Parkville, Mo., and has inspired many quilters to challenge themselves to reach beyond their level of quilting comfort. Her main goals in teaching are to help even the most novice quilter realize that he/she can create a very personal heirloom while having fun along the way.

The August workshop is another charity project led by members Sharon Caton and Gail Thorston. Join in at 9 a.m. and learn to make "fidget quilts" to be donated to memory care programs in the area. They will be adding decorations on mini quilts, just bring hand sewing supplies, needles and thread, etc.

Nebraskans

The Nebraska Club of Bella Vista and Northwest Arkansas will kick off the 2019 football season Aug. 31 at the Tanyard Creek Pavillion, 98 Tanyard Drive in Bella Vista.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast served at 8:30 a.m. There will be the usual raffle of Husker memorabilia. In addition, there will be an auction of four tickets for the Oct. 26 Nebraska versus Indiana game in Lincoln. Also to be auctioned will be a handmade Nebraska-inspired bench.

The price of breakfast will be $12 per person. Reservations should be sent to the club treasurers, K.B. and Sue Smith, 10 Highland Parkway, Bella Vista 72715 by Aug. 26.

Following the breakfast there will be a watch party on the patio of the BV Bar and Grill (formerly the Bella Vista Country Club).

Dues are due and are $5 per person.

Civil War

The Bella Vista Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Bella Vista Historical Society Museum.

Guest speaker will be Susan Young, outreach coordinator at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale. Young's topic will be "Sorrow, Trouble and Worry: Stories from the Ozark Homefront during the Civil War." Young, a lifelong resident of Northwest Arkansas, has been in her position at Shiloh since 1994 and has authored a book So Big, This Little Place, a history of the founding and early years of Tontitown.
