EDITORIAL: Not a good plan

Waiting for a meltdown? Is that the best they’ve got?

While an inverted something or other in the stock market caused some economic panic recently, one could almost read the minds of Democratic presidential hopefuls. They're all circling, waiting for blood in the water, whether it's their own or President Trump. Anything to get ahead.

And the man who has a pretty decent shot at staying in the White House still has his Trump card, a great economy. That'll likely be what determines if our president gets another four years: how good the economy is next year.

Which is why the Democratic strategy of silently praying for a recession so they can use it against Mr. Trump seems so utterly ridiculous. And while none of them will come out and blatantly say they want thousands of Americans to lose their jobs so they can have a silver bullet for the president, it seems there are at least a couple crossing their fingers for such an outcome.

A look at their broader goals doesn't seem to yield any benefits for the economy. The $15 minimum wage, free college, free health care, possible reparations and whatever else they come up with between now and November 2020 seem like they'll hurt the economy just as much, if not more, than a recession.

So far, between a recession that might happen and Democratic economic policies that are guaranteed to hurt the economy, it sounds like the evil we do know is the better option. And who knows, these economists might have something wrong. Harbingers of doom aren't always 100 percent accurate. Ask the Mayans.
