Cancel leads Northwest Arkansas to 5-1 win over Midland

SPRINGDALE -- Gabriel Cancel had four hits and two RBI as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals beat the Midland RockHounds 5-1 on Thursday.

Midland cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third after Mikey White hit a solo home run.

After NW Arkansas added a run in the fourth when Cancel scored on a groundout, the Naturals extended their lead in the fifth inning when Khalil Lee scored on a double and Emmanuel Rivera scored on an error.

NW Arkansas right-hander Scott Blewett (1-3) picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Brian Howard (8-8) took the loss in the Texas League game after giving up five runs and 10 hits over five innings.

Despite the loss, Midland is 10-5 against NW Arkansas this season.

Arkansas 8, Corpus Christi 6

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Jarred Kelenic drove in Luis Liberato with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, leading the Arkansas Travelers to a win over the Corpus Christi Hooks.

Liberato scored on the play to give the Travelers a 7-6 lead after he led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a walk by Nick Zammarelli and then went to third on a walk by Logan Taylor.

The Travelers tacked on another run in the ninth when Zammarelli hit an RBI single, driving in Mike Ahmed.

Austin Adams (1-0) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Tommy DeJuneas (2-5) took the loss in the Texas League game.

For the Hooks, Colton Shaver homered and singled, driving home three runs and scoring a couple. Jake Adams homered and singled, driving in two runs.

Springfield 13, Frisco 9

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Kramer Robertson hit a run-scoring single in the seventh inning, leading the Springfield Cardinals to a win over the Frisco RoughRiders.

The single by Robertson came in the midst of an eight-run inning and gave the Cardinals a 9-7 lead. Later in the inning, Springfield scored on three more plays, including a two-run home run by Johan Mieses.

In the top of the ninth, Frisco scored on a triple by Leody Taveras that brought home Yonny Hernandez.

In the following at-bat, Charles Leblanc hit an RBI single, driving in Taveras to cut the Springfield lead to 13-9.

Alex Fagalde (4-5) got the win in relief while Blake Bass (8-4) took the loss in the Texas League game.

Leblanc was a triple short of the cycle, driving home three runs and scoring a couple for the RoughRiders. Ryan Dorow homered and singled, driving home three runs.
