Four Arkansas teachers deemed by Economics Arkansas as going above and beyond when developing and implementing projects that teach economics were honored Nov. 14 at the Bessie B. Moore Awards Luncheon at the Clinton Presidential Center.
Recognized for their creative approaches to teaching economics and personal finance were Anna Badders and Amy Mileham, both of the Rogers School District, Amy Nicole Gordon of Fort Smith Public Schools, and Valarie Harp with the Hackett School District. A lifetime achievement award was given to Sheila Humphrey of Fort Smith.
Keynote speaker was Sarah Catherine Gutierrez, founder of Aptus Financial. She spoke about the importance of financial literacy and of a program she started named the Save 10 Challenge encouraging young women to start saving 10% of their income for retirement.
