The newsmakers and the news media -- including one of Arkansas' most famous news subjects: former President Bill Clinton -- came out to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette at a banquet on Nov. 21 at the Statehouse Convention Center.

Some 1,000 guests were invited to the celebration. The evening began with a reception followed by a dinner in the Wally Allen Ballroom. Guests dined on crab and corn chowder, sorghum-brined chicken and cheddar cheese grits with greens. Dessert was an apple crisp.

Guests were welcomed to the event by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette senior editor Rex Nelson and the Rev. Christoph Keller gave the invocation. A program included a history of the newspaper by former Arkansas Gazette associate editor Ernie Dumas and remarks by Eliza Hussman Gaines, vice president of audience development at WEHCO Media, and publisher Walter E. Hussman Jr.

Clinton, introduced by Mack McLarty, gave the keynote address.
