Former Springdale teacher arrested in connection with sexually assaulting student

SPRINGDALE -- Police arrested a former Springdale High School teacher Wednesday in connection with sexual assault of a female student.

Randall Scott Peckham, 57, of Springdale was arrested on one felony count of first-degree sexual assault and one felony count of pandering or possessing visual or print material depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, according to a news release from the Springdale Police Department.

Peckham was being taken to the Washington County Detention Center, according to the news release.

Detectives arrested Peckham without incident about 2 p.m. at his home, according to the news release.

Police started an investigation Oct. 14 after a female student at the school reported inappropriate social media contact with Peckham. Peckham resigned his position as an English teacher on Oct. 17.
