2,090 students set for UA graduation

FAYETTEVILLE -- A total of 2,090 students have applied to graduate this semester at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, according to information released by the university.

The total includes 1,420 undergraduate students.

Chancellor Joe Steinmetz will deliver a commencement address at the Saturday fall commencement ceremony, set to begin at 9 a.m. in Bud Walton Arena.

The fall graduates include students who completed degree requirements during the summer and fall terms.

UA, the state's largest university, reinstated fall commencement in 2011.

Gallini to be dean at Oregon school

FAYETTEVILLE -- Brian Gallini, a criminal law professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law, has been announced as dean of the Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Ore.

He is to step into his new role next summer, according to a Tuesday announcement from the Oregon university.

"During the interview process, Brian had broad support from faculty, staff, and students for both his scholarship and his leadership. He brings an enthusiasm for the future of Law at Willamette, and will be a great addition to the senior leadership of the university," Willamette University Provost Carol Long said in a statement.

Gallini joined the UA law faculty in 2008, according information from UA that was published online.

The Willamette University College of Law has 292 students this fall, a university spokesman said.
