NWA airport expands security checkpoint

HIGHFILL -- A project expanding the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint at the Northwest Arkansas National Airport has been completed.

Now airport officials are waiting for more equipment.

The goal of the expansion was to provide room for a fourth screening lane.

The administration equipment is anticipated to be in place within the next few months. Some work is still required adjacent to the screening space once the new equipment is installed.

The length of each lane also has been extended to allow for additional tables on both sides of the equipment. This will improve the efficiency of the screening process, airport officials said.

The work was completed to Federal Aviation Administration standards and the airport expects to receive a grant in 2020 that will reimburse 90% of the $4.5 million project.
