Planning your adventure

Before rolling your wheels onto any part of the Buffalo Outdoor Center's new BOC Trail System, consider the bold text beside the trail map.

Pay particular attention to the legend section: "DIFFICULT TRAILS, VERY DIFFICULT TRAILS" and "EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TRAILS."

Note, there are no "EASY TRAILS" listed.

As the map also states in large, capitalized letters, "RIDE WITHIN YOUR LIMITS, NOT FOR BEGINNERS."

It pays, too, to check the website before you decide to ride. Trail closures are posted there. The site explains that there will be no biking for 24 hours after rain. If it rains again after the initial closure, the trails remain closed. If the rain stops but the forecast calls for continued rain chances, the trails remain closed.

Buffalo Outdoor Center at Ponca offers a variety of accommodations for visitors to enjoy a mountain bike adventure, from an intimate weekend of cycling with the family in one of the quaint log cabins nestled in the forest, to renting one of two lodges large enough to handle an entire cycling team for their spring training camp. Riders also could park their home-away-from-home at the RV Park.
