Comets tighten up in 2nd half

Mills Coach Raymond Cooper thought his team played a little sloppy in the first half against Joe T. Robinson on Friday night on the Senators' home floor.

He didn't get a repeat in the second half.

The Comets (19-4, 12-0 4A-5) outscored the Senators (11-10, 5-6) by 17 points in the second half, securing an 81-54 victory for their ninth consecutive victory. The last time Mills suffered a loss was against North Little Rock two days before Christmas in the Arkansas Pride Holiday Classic at North Little Rock.

"We were a little sloppier in the first half, had some miscommunications," Cooper said about Friday's first half. "We wanted to make sure we cleaned up the turnovers and wanted to make sure we had guys in the right places. In the first half, we had half our guys run the wrong play and the other half something else."

The Comets led by two after the first quarter, then increased that to 35-25 at halftime.

Branton McCrary took over in the third quarter, scoring 10 of the Comets' 25 points as they expanded their lead to 60-39.

In the first 4:40 of the final quarter, Mills increased its lead to 76-47 but was held to five points the rest of the game while Robinson added seven.

Kevin Cross had a game-high 22 points to lead the Comets. Christian Cross led the Senators with 11 points.
