UCA adds nine from its in-state haul

The University of Central Arkansas announced Wednesday it filled all 25 spots in its 2019 football recruiting class, including 2 transfers from the University of Arkansas, 8 mid-year transfers and 17 high school signees.

"We are very excited about these guys," UCA Coach Nathan Brown said Wednesday evening at a reception announcing the full signing class.

BOLD represents Wednesday’s additions

"These are good players. We've got a plan. And we executed it. I thought our coaches did a great job. ... This is going to be a special group."

Nine of the Bears' signings are from within the state. Five hail from Texas, four from Florida, three from Mississippi, two from Tennessee and one each from Alabama and Missouri.

UCA did not announce any high school signees on Dec. 19, the first day of the early signing period. All of the school's six early signings were transfers, including former Razorbacks wide receivers Jarrod Barnes and Tobias Enlow.

Barnes, a 5-11, 185-pounder from Cabot, was named the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Preps Male Athlete of the Year in 2016 before joining the Razorbacks' 2017 recruiting class.

Barnes did not appear in a game in 2018 as a sophomore at Arkansas. He played 6 snaps in Arkansas' 2017 season opener against Florida A&M on Aug. 31, 2017, and caught 2 passes for 30 yards.

"Jarrod will be one of the most decorated transfers we have had here at UCA," Brown said in a Dec. 19 news release.

Enlow, a North Little Rock product who chose the Razorbacks as a preferred walk-on in 2016, redshirted for his freshman season at Arkansas in 2016 and did not play in any games in 2017. Enlow appeared in one game as a sophomore in 2018.

Enlow, 6-2, 205, missed his senior high school season in 2015 with a severe knee injury. He has not played significant minutes since gaining 185 receiving yards and two touchdowns as a high school junior at North Little Rock in 2014.

"Tobias has always been a special kid to me," Brown said in December. "I recruited him when he was coming out of North Little Rock High School in 2015. I got to know him and his family really well throughout the process. I always knew he could be a special player, and now I look forward to seeing him do that here in Conway."

UCA also added former Joe. T. Robinson High School defensive back Trenton Dunn as a transfer from Northwestern Oklahoma A&M during the early signing period.

UCA's nine total in-state signings include offensive lineman Josh George (Benton), running back Zion Hatley (Arkadelphia), quarterback Darius Bowers (Fayetteville), defensive end Marquez Casey (Jacksonville), linebacker Dwain Hunt (North Little Rock) and cornerback Donte Jones (Bentonville).

"That's a big deal," Brown said. "Obviously a good year in-state."
