Mercy opens new clinic
Mercy celebrated its newest clinic, Mercy Clinic Occupational Medicine in Rogers, on Jan. 31 with a blessing and ribbon-cutting. Dr. David Sitzes -- who is board certified in family medicine -- heads the clinic at 1101 S. Horsebarn Road.
Mercy Clinic Occupational Medicine is in an office suite alongside Mercy Therapy Services. Renovation of the occupational medicine space cost about $220,000.
The clinics are part of Mercy's ongoing $277 million expansion in the region, which includes the addition of a seven-story tower to the Rogers hospital and a large multispecialty facility in Springdale. The tower and Springdale facility are projected to open in August.
PRSA NWA elects new board
The Northwest Arkansas chapter of the Public Relations Society of America elected board of directors for 2019: president, Madeline Whitaker, communications coordinator, Hope Cancer Resources; president-elect, Delaney Vaughn, product coordinator, Denovo Brands; secretary, Jake Lane, marketing manager, The Jones Center; and treasurer, Nathan Green, vice president of public relations, inVeritas.
Directors-at-large are Jennifer Wilson, director of public relations, Walton Arts Center; Cassi Lapp, communications manager, city of Bella Vista; and Kevin Trainor, senior associate athletics director for public relations, University of Arkansas Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
PRSA Northwest Arkansas hosts monthly programs including panel discussions, speaking engagements, roundtables, networking events and professional development opportunities with experts and leaders from the public relations and communications industry.
The February meeting will be a panel of area experts in social media at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 27 at the World Trade Center Arkansas, 3300 S. Market St., No. 400, Rogers.
Children's Hour earns high rating
The Children's Hour in Bentonville earned a 3-star rating in quality child care and educational programs from Better Beginnings, Arkansas' quality rating and improvement system for all licensed and registered child care facilities.
Better Beginnings focuses on five quality components when rating a 3-star facility: administration, staff qualifications and professional developmental, learning environment, environmental assessment and child health and development. The group's curriculum is based on the early learning and development guidelines: math, science and literacy.
Baptist Health offers
new COPD treatment
A new treatment at Baptist Health-Fort Smith is for lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Dr. Arturo Meade, an interventional pulmonologist at Baptist Health Lung Center-Fort Smith, was recently trained to perform a new nonsurgical procedure to treat severe emphysema. The lung center is at 1001 Townson Ave., No. 400.
The valve, which was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in December, is a small, umbrella-shaped one-way device that is placed inside of airway of the lung. It is used to redirect air from the less healthy to the healthier parts of the lung, which improves overall lung function.
