Orchids

The Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. This meeting will focus on preparations for the ninth annual show and sale March 1-3, co-hosted by the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks in Fayetteville. Bring blooming plants for the monthly judging. Anyone interested in growing orchids is welcome to attend.

The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly raffles for members and occasional public auctions offer affordable orchids and supplies for new or experienced growers.

Historians

An informative program from the Washington County Historical Society's Diverse Settlers Committee will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale. The focus of the program is "Black Settlers in Fayetteville: Business Initiatives."

The program will feature a short video of Sherman Morgan and his famous tavern Sherman's, which includes a panel talking about locally owned black businesses.

A presentation by Dr. Calvin White of the University of Arkansas will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Teachers

Washington County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 18 at Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. Registration begins at 11 a.m., and the buffet is served at 11:30 a.m.

Norma Brown will give the devotional. A program titled "Homespun Tales" will be given by Sue Everett. Christine Scott will recognize WCRTA members for "most years of service in teaching."

Members need to bring contributions to the group's charitable causes.

Stitched

Stitched With Love will meet at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 19 at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Davis St. in Pea Ridge. It is a nonprofit organization formed for the purpose of sewing quilts, hats and pillows for children at Arkansas Children's Hospital. The club meets the third Tuesday of each month. Bring completed quilts and batting scraps to stuff pillows and scissors to cut batting for new kits. New members are welcome.

GOP Women

The Benton County Republican Women's Club will meet at noon Feb. 19 at the Pleasant Crossing Golden Corral in Rogers. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m.

County Judge Barry Moehring and Benton County Justices of the Peace will be speaking on the latest about the Benton County Courthouse, with information needed to cast an educated vote in the special election on March 12.

BCRW meets the third Tuesday of each month, and guests are invited to attend.

SUV

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at Foghorn's Restaurant, 2221 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. Dinner will be at 6 p.m.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to honoring those men that fought for the United States during the Civil War.

Democrats

The Senior Democrats of Northwest Arkansas will meet at noon Feb. 19 at the Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. The speaker will be Brian Thompson, who will be addressing the Buffalo River and problems from the hog farm nearby. Thompson was a project manager in the information systems field for Tyson Foods and is a board member of the Buffalo River Watershed Alliance.

DAR

The Ozark Mountains Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at Simmons Bank in Rogers. Laura Sawyer will present a program on Mount Rushmore.

Calico Cut Ups

The Calico Cut Ups quilt guild will meet at noon Feb. 25 at Becker Hall at the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive.

The meeting kicks off with social time and the vendor Bittersweet Quilt Shop from Pinconning, Mo. At 1 p.m. there will be a special "Return to Learn" program, including members Barb Ostermeier teaching a simplified way to construct a Double Dresden block; Virginia Reitz demonstrating how to create a beautiful table runner from border print fabric; Sue Wagner, who will help the group decide whether an ETSY shop might be in its future; and Bill Croft will cross artistic lines comparing principles of creating stained glass art with those involved in creating beautiful quilts.

The business meeting starts at 2 p.m. and concludes with show and tell by members.

The Calico Cut Ups guild usually meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 1 p.m. Attending the guild is a good way to begin quilting or increase knowledge of quilting and a good way to meet new people. Each month, vendors come with patterns, fabric and kits. Guests are welcome.

BC Dems

The Benton County Dems will meet at noon Feb. 25 at the Golden Corral, 2605 W. Pleasant Crossing Drive in Rogers. The group will have lunch before the meeting at 11 a.m. Diego Quiñones will speak about his work with the Democratic Party of Arkansas as director of Latino engagement in Benton County and beyond.

Garden Club

The Bella Vista Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting beginning at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 27 at the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd. Lunch is served at 11 a.m. Joe Ledvina will speak about highway wildflowers and the Milkweed Seeding Program. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Son's Chapel

Son's Chapel Quilters meet from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday at historic Son's Chapel, 5480 E. Mission Blvd. in Fayetteville, to create handmade treasures to sell to support the building. New or experienced quilters and embroiderers welcome.

CLIMB

Children's Lives Include Moments of Bravery is a Children's Treehouse Foundation family support group that helps children ages 6 to 12 cope with and share feelings about a loved one who has cancer. The next group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. every Monday from March 25 until April 29 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Members must RSVP by March 11 to attend.

Recovery

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for patients who have completed treatment for any type of cancer. Empower Your Recovery is a five-week program that provides support and education for living beyond cancer, after treatment ends. The group will meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday from March 27 until April 24 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Members must RSVP by March 15.
