Lane closings set for I-630 widening

Work on an $87.4 million project to widen a section of Interstate 630 in west Little Rock will require overnight lane closings Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews will reduce eastbound traffic to one lane by closing the center and outside eastbound lanes between Fair Park Boulevard and Baptist Health Medical Center from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights, weather permitting.

Closing the lanes will allow crews to unload beams for construction of a new bridge over Rodney Parham Road, the department said. Traffic will be controlled using signs and barrels.

Neighborhoods adjacent to the interstate may be affected by construction noise during the nighttime operation, the department said.

The work is part of a project to widen I-630 between South University Avenue and Baptist Health Medical Center to eight lanes from six. The widening is estimated to be complete in early 2020.
