SAM HOUSTON STATE 78, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 69

Thatch Unruh scored a game-high 27 points, but it was not enough as Sam Houston State defeated the University of Central Arkansas at the Farris Center in Conway.

UCA (6-10, 1-2 Southland Conference), which trailed 38-23 at halftime, shot 36.4 percent (20 of 55) from the floor and had 18 turnovers.

Sam Houston State's largest lead was 20 points, 70-50, with 5:01 remaining.

Zach Nutall led Sam Houston State (7-8, 2-0) with 18 points.

Albert Almanza and Xavier Bryant each had 12 points for the Bearkats. Kai Mitchell added 11 points while Cameron Delaney and Josh Delaney both chipped in with 10 points apiece.

DeAndre Jones was the Bears' other double-digit scorer with 12 points.

SOUTHLAND WOMEN

SAM HOUSTON STATE 66, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 62

Central Arkansas (5-8) dropped to 0-3 in the Southland Conference with a loss to Sam Houston State (6-6, 1-1) at Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville, Texas.

Jaylonn Walker led Sam Houston State with 18 points. Amber Leggett finished with 16 points.

The Sugar Bears were led by Mekaylan Hicks with 18 points. Taylor Sells had 15 points and Kamry Orr added 11 points.

UCA trailed 62-60 with 14 seconds left after Hicks' layup. Hicks was fouled on the play by Baxter, but she could not convert the three-point play. Sam Houston State was able to close out the game by going 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.

SWAC WOMEN

UAPB 52, LEMOYNE-OWEN 43

Shawntayla Harris scored 19 points to lead Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-5) past Lemoyne-Owen (7-9) in a nonconference game at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff.

Kyeonia Harris finished with 13 points for UAPB, which shot 35.4 percent (23 of 65).

Averyale Joy led Lemoyne-Owen with 16 points.

The game was tied at 26-26 at halftime, but UAPB outscored Lemoyne-Owen 26-17 in the second half, with its largest lead being 10 points, 52-42, in the fourth quarter.
