Little Rock police officers were on the scene of a homicide Wednesday night, the agency wrote on Twitter.

Police said the crime scene was in the 5200 block of West 29th Street in Little Rock. The block is within a mile of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus.

Little Rock police spokesman officer Eric Barnes said that a "shot spotter" – part of the city's gunshot detection system – picked up the sound of shots around 7:30 p.m. An officer searched the area and found a man who had been shot to death. Police said there were no 911 calls about the shooting and that they believe the victim was killed by the shots the spotter recorded.

Police did not identify the man Wednesday night.

This is the city's 5th homicide in 2019.
