Shooting that injured 2 children investigated as accident, Arkansas police chief says

Two children are recovering Wednesday morning after they were found with gunshot wounds in an apparent accidental shooting in Sharp County, authorities said.

Authorities responded to a call made by the boys' grandmother just before 6 p.m. Tuesday on Woodland Drive in Cave City and found a 3-year-old and 4-year-old who had been shot, said Brian Barnett, chief of the city’s police department.

According to Barnett, authorities are treating the shooting as an accident and do not anticipate filing any charges. He declined to release additional information about how the shooting took place, citing an open investigation.

The boys were airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock and both are expected to recover, Barnett said.

“It looks like they’ll be fine,” he said. “Might take a little bit to just kind of heal up."
