Public education future forum topic

New Millennium Church, 21 Lakeshore Drive in Little Rock, will host a forum on "Re-Segregation, Privatization, and De-Funding of Public Education," on Thursday, Friday and Jan. 26, according to a news release.

Iva Carruthers, general secretary of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, will discuss "Re-Segregation and Trans-Generational Trauma" at 6 p.m. Thursday; Little Rock Nine member Terrence Roberts will address "Re-Segregation and the Color of Law" with an audience dialogue afterward facilitated by New Millennium's pastor, the Rev. Wendell Griffen; and Nancy MacLean, professor of history and public policy at Duke University, will discuss "Re-Segregation, Privatization, and De-Funding of Public Education -- the Threat to Democracy," with workshops afterward, and a panel discussion with Sen. Joyce Elliot, Anika Whitfield, Jim Ross and the Rev. Toney Orr.

The church is co-sponsoring the forum with the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference and the Vanderbilt University's Public Theology and Racial Justice Collaborative.
