University board selects chairman

RUSSELLVILLE -- The Arkansas Tech University board elected Fritz Kronberger of Russellville as its chairman Thursday.

Kronberger, 78, will serve as board chairman for the 2019 calendar year. He was board chairman in 2009.

His fellow trustees elected him during their first meeting of the year on Thursday at Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson appointed Kronberger to the Arkansas Tech board in 2015.

It marked the second time that Kronberger has served as an Arkansas Tech trustee. He was a member of the board from 2005-2010, appointed by former Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Kronberger's current, five-year term is scheduled to end on Jan. 14, 2020.

He is a graduate of the University of Texas-Austin, earning a bachelor's degree in 1962. Kronberger studied mathematics and became a registered geophysicist. He spent his career in the oil and gas exploration business.

Other Arkansas Tech board officers for 2019 are Tom Kennedy of Little Rock, who was elected vice chairman, and Eric Burnett of Fort Smith, who was elected secretary.

Arkansas Tech University, which is in Russellville, is one of the largest public universities in Arkansas. It has about 12,070 students.
