6A-CENTRAL GIRLS

Persistent Brown finds her range for NLR

North Little Rock's girls scored the game's first 13 points on their way to an 83-54 victory over Bryant at the North Little Rock Arena.

Senior guard De'Myla Brown scored 23 points -- 15 via three-pointers -- as the No. 7 Lady Charging Wildcats built a 40-14 halftime lead.

"She went 2 of 18 against [Fort Smith] Northside on Friday night," North Little Rock Coach Daryl Fimple said. "She was in here three hours on Sunday. She was in here this morning and this afternoon. ... She's a perfectionist and she expects to make every shot, which is great when you're a shooter."

North Little Rock (10-8, 4-2 6A-Central) went 9 of 17 from three-point range Tuesday, including hitting four of its last five. Sophomore guard Arin Freeman added 16 points and made six steals. Freshman Amauri Williams led the Lady 'Cats in rebounding with 17 while blocking four shots.

Kalia Walker came off the bench to lead Bryant, scoring 12 of her team-high 15 points in the second half. India Atkins added 14 points and Tierra Trotter 12. Allison Steen pulled down 13 rebounds.

Bryant (13-5, 3-3) missed all nine of its field-goal attempts in the first quarter, falling behind 17-3. The Lady Hornets finished 20 of 51 from the floor. North Little Rock was 26-of-54 shooting and hit 21 of 29 free throws.

The Lady Hornets got as close as 17 points midway through the fourth quarter.

"A 13-0 start was surprising in the fact that [Bryant] runs so much good stuff," Fimple said. "But we did a really good job of getting them out of their stuff. What also impressed me was that we made free throws."
