Everybody's talking

You want to know if a subject is on the minds of Americans? Wally Hall wrote a whole column about it. ESPN has it on an endless loop. For cryin' out loud, the ladies on NBC's Kathie Lee & Hoda show led with it Tuesday morning.

It was a call the NFL referees didn't make.

With all its talk about player safety, concussion avoidance and helmet-to-helmet hits--not to mention the decades-old pass interference rule--the referees on Sunday ate their flags instead of calling an obvious penalty at the end of a playoff game. The NFC has the wrong team in the Super Bowl this year.

Can the casual fan do anything about it?

Sure. We can avoid the Super Bowl this year and hope ratings drop, just to send a message to the NFL's front offices. If this game is a dud, maybe the NFL will take the rules seriously, and try to get it right next time.

Say, what's playing at the movies not this Sunday but next, at about 5:20 in the afternoon?
