LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Why I'm a Democrat, cannot erase history + more

Why I'm a Democrat

The Democrat-Gazette and letter-writers have been running down Democrats, so I thought I would explain why I am a Democrat.

First is basic honesty. Looking at administrations going back to Lyndon Johnson, not including the current one, Republicans have a total of 120 indictments and 89 convictions. Democrats have three indictments and one conviction.

Next, I believe "trickle-down," or supply-side, economics is a fraud aimed at enriching the already rich at the expense of working people. The Republicans in Congress push this because they are bought and paid for property of billionaires. If they don't toe the line, their campaign "contributions" will dry up. Our deficit problem is entirely due to this fraud.

Next, global warming is real and causing climate change. The Republicans push denial for the same reason they push trickle-down economics.

Then there is their double standard. Deficits are only serious when a Democrat is in the White House. When Republicans are in, it's not a problem. When Bill Clinton was involved in a sex scandal, it was moral degeneracy, and he had to be impeached. With Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump, and Brett Kavanaugh, it is "boys will be boys."

In my simple world, if something is wrong for a Democrat, it is also wrong for Republicans. I won't even get into their strategy of appealing to racial, religious, and sexual prejudices. That is an entire letter in itself.

Cannot erase history

I am wondering how long before American history is completely eliminated from the curriculum of our schools and universities. It appears we are trying to eradicate all monuments, statues and unpleasant memories of our history because the mere mention of our past is just too painful and offensive for some of the "little darlings" of today's society.

Give me a break! We can't just hit the delete button and pretend it didn't happen. It's part of our history. It's how we got where we are today. I know that in my own personal life, I've had mistakes, faults and failures that I am not proud of, but I learned from them and vowed not to repeat them. There is no future in the past.

So, as I continue to work on my vocabulary, there is another "N" word that I have decided to eliminate: Nike. I have replaced it with an "F" word: Fila.

God bless America.

Children's treatment

Trump said before or during his campaign that he didn't do babies; meaning, we must think, that young children hold no interest for him. We see now that the neglectful treatment of children at our southern border exactly reflects his attitude.

And, sadly, we have to believe that that un-Christian attitude is shared by the Arkansans who voted for the monster.
