WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Razorbacks earn regional honors

University of Arkansas women's track Coach Lance Harter was named South Central region head coach of the year, Chris Johnson was named assistant coach of the year honors, and Janeek Brown was named South Central region athlete of the year Friday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Harter, in his 29th year as head coach at Arkansas, guided the Razorbacks to their eighth consecutive SEC title. Arkansas has a national best of 17 qualifiers going to the NCAA National Championships in Austin, Texas.

Johnson, who coaches sprinters, had nine of his athletes advance to the national championships. Arkansas sprinters accounted for 46 percent of Arkansas' 139.5 points in winning the SEC title.

Brown is ranked first nationally in the 100-meter hurdles at 12.55 seconds and second nationally in the 200 at 22.47.

SOFTBALL

Lyon duo named all-region

Lyon College softball freshman Faith Cornmesser and junior Cheyenne Black were named to the NAIA All-Region Team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Friday as second-team members.

Cornmesser was named as the Region II second-team utility player. Cornmesser had a 7-2 record with a 2.61 ERA as a pitcher. She struck out 37 batters in 59 innings. Offensively, Cornmesser hit .321 with 17 RBI and had a .418 on-base percentage and .389 slugging percentage.

Black was named as the Region II second-team designated player. Black led Lyon with a .377 batting average and had 35 RBI. She had a .565 slugging percentage and .456 on-base percentage.
